Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 23 Aug '08

"The man who has no imagination has no wings"

My Thoughts:
When I start imagining things…….I can go any where in this world err, anywhere in the universe. I believe this is the case with all of us.

Even if we have no material means to do things….imagination is an ultimate tool. But one thing you would agree that only imagining things don’t work, you really have to work hard (most of the times) to make things work.

So start flying high and reach the sky with hard work.

"Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color. Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense and choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable"
--Anonymous

My Thoughts:
This particular quote brings me to a question as to why should one select his friend on the basis of skin color. The fact is that nobody gets the chance to choose the way He/She looks. But it’s in the hand of that person to decide what character he is going to wear on his external appearance. So why not be wise enough to see what a person has chosen as his character and then take her as our friend?
Allah Almighty has blessed us with a unique identity. I am thankful to Allah for making me what I am and blessed me with a loving family and an “Army” of good Friends.
Well as far as the choosing socks are concerned….I don’t care.
So tell me how do you choose your friends….?
"Fear paralyzes; curiosity empowers. Be more interested than afraid."

My Thoughts:
I have found that when I am tensed or afraid, I cannot act or think correctly. It’s very difficult to make a decision or to come up with a solution to a problem in case. I am sure we all might have encountered such a situation one time or the other in our lifetime.

I also discovered that when I am curious about a thing, it becomes easy for me to explore more about that thing. This is how I relate my experience to this quote.

Let me know what you think…..waiting for your reply.
"Do not wait for the last Judgment. It takes place every day"

My Thoughts:
This particular quote reminds me of 20-80 Rule. Let me explain you the 20-80 Rule (read more), the rule states that “For many events, 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes”. This rule was given by Vilfredo Pareto when he saw that 80% of income in Italy went to 20% of the population.

By this time, you would be wondering how do I relate the above quote to the 20-80 Rule? Let me explain, in my college, the students were normally given a preparatory leave of few days around 30 days. But most of us used to start the actual preparations only 5 to 6 days prior to the exam. Again the 20-80 Rule, i.e. 80 percent of marks that we scored were the result of 20 percent to total preparatory time.

This applies not only to exam preparations but lots of other scenarios in life. We see that people start preparing for something only if that is urgent. We start cleaning our rooms only when some near one is coming to our home or only when we receive an ultimatum form Mom. Same at work, we start fixing things only when we know that the Audit is going to take place this week. We could have done this well in advance….we had all the time in this world but we tend to wait for the “Last Judgement”. Only if we understand that the Last Judgement takes every day, I think that the 20-80 Rule would prove wrong.

As it is said, rules are meant to be broken. I am doing my best at breaking the 20-80 rule….what say you….?
"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
My Thoughts:
We always make statements such as “why doesn’t he cares for me”, “My Boss is a jerk”, “Oh God! That was Pathetic” and so on. But we fail to see that if we want to see things the way you want to seen, all you have to do is change yourself.

The change should start from you. And believe me change is a contagious phenomenon, When people see you changing they respect your behavior and respond to you positively

That was my thoughts on changing the World. What about you…?
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that"

My Thoughts:
Another gem from Martin Luther King, Jr., It requires no extraordinary talent to understand this quote but surely it requires great patience to follow this one. We have the tendency to balance out things, we return Love for Love, Hate for Hate, Abuse for Abuse.

But we have to understand it’s good to return a Virtue for a Virtue but returning evil for an evil will not destroy the evil. Returning evil for an evil will certainly spread and elevate it. Like what Mahatma Gandhi says “An eye for an eye makes the world blind”

But here I want to make one thing clear -- always Justice should take precedence over your decisions. For example you would not let go a Murderer for his crime, he should be punished for his crime and the victim should get justice.

This was what I think. Share with me your thoughts.
"Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live; it is asking others to live as one wishes to live"

My Thoughts:
This quote gave me a new approach towards selfishness. I used to think people who think more about themselves, or rather, only about themselves are sick of this disease called Selfishness. But now I know that’s not the only definition. We always have the tendency to force people to act the way we feel comfortable. We don’t want to leave our comfort-zones but instead want the other person to suffer hardships.

Knowingly or un-knowingly we all have done this (or are doing this). Well I would do my best to prevent myself from this disease called Selfishness. And by the way what about you?
