Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 31 Dec '08

“Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.”
My Thoughts:
I am getting no thoughts for this quote. That’s a complete topic in itself; enough for a sensible person to understand the seriousness of this statement.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 30 Dec '08

“Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds.”
My Thoughts:
I have a pre-decided destiny and I believe in fate. And it is said that if something is going to land up with you then nobody can take it away from you and vice versa.

If something is in my fate, then it is surely be mines. Then the question is why should I try? This is how we become  prisoners of our own mind.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 29 Dec '08

“Someday everything will all make perfect sense. So for now, laugh at the confusion, smile through the tears, and keep reminding yourself that everything happens for a reason”
--Anonymous
My Thoughts:
Yes, everything happens for a reason. And most of us are not intelligent enough to understand this.

So by the time when things start making sense, you enjoy life the way it comes.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 28 Dec '08

“It is by the goodness of God that in our country we have those three unspeakably precious things: freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the prudence never to practice either of them.”

Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 27 Dec '08

“Never deprive someone of hope; it might be all they have.”
My Thoughts:
I have seen and met many people in life who don’t have anything materialistic. They are penniless with no-skills, but full of hope.

And this hope is all that is keeping them alive, giving them a purpose of life. And we have to understand that many a times our words and actions could actually take away hope from people. And chances are that they are such people who may have only hope to keep them going.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 26 Dec '08

“I never compete against the competition. The only one I compete against is myself, because one day I will beat the competition and then who will I compete against?”
--Billie Akauola
My Thoughts:
An ambitious person would certainly kill all the competition some day or the other. Then what challenge would he have?

As I have said in the previous quote, you have a certain purpose in life. And at that point when you outrun the competition, would you have any challenge or purpose in your life? Yes, there is always scope to improve. Improve to a better YOU, this is how you compete against yourself.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 25 Dec '08

“Some people like my advice so much that they frame it upon the wall instead of using it.”
My Thoughts:
That’s a perfect sarcasm, aptly applicable these days. You would find most people who would listen to you with undivided attention.

They would agree to your advice, but then they would simply not follow. Here in India, you would see lots of good words written at lots of institutions, especially government offices. But you would observe they never follow them, that’s just for “decorating” the walls.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 24 Dec '08

“When you are at the top; just look up; the sky will be still above you”
--Anonymous
My Thoughts:
Most of us, when we achieve success, get that feeling that we are at the top. Everything, everyone is below us.

But when you realize, that there are still more things that are above you, then you would come out of that false pride. And also you would have higher goals to keep you going.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 23 Dec '08

“Happiness is not a station you arrive at, but a manner of traveling.”
--Margaret Lee Runbeck
My Thoughts:
As I have been telling the previous quotes that your journey is as important as your destination. Be that journey of life, career or otherwise.

Similar is the journey for happiness and joy. It is not just a state of mind, but a complete experience that makes you feel happy. And each step in this journey is equally important.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 22 Dec '08

“Defer not till tomorrow to be wise, tomorrow's sun to thee may never rise.”
My Thoughts:
In India, we follow this famous saying “Kal Kare So Aaj Kar,. Aaj kare so ab. Pal mein parlay ho jayega, Bahuri karega kab” (translated to English) “If it is to be done tomorrow, do it today. If it is to be done today, do it now. In a second disaster would struck, then when would you do what you want to do?”

Now is the chance to do things, or I must say – be wise and do things, because nobody knows will you ever get a second chance.

Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 20 Dec '08

“The heart of a fool is in his mouth, but the mouth of a wise man is in his heart.”
My Thoughts:
My Dad says this “a closed fist is worth million rupees”. Unless the other person knows what is inside your clenched fist, he might think that it’s something precious you are holding, even if you are holding nothing.

So show your wisdom by holding your tongue, wherever you can
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 19 Dec '08

“People will accept your ideas much more readily if you tell them Benjamin Franklin said it first.”
--David H. Comins
My Thoughts:
We all have a comfort and a discomfort zone in our minds. These comfort zones for someone are created when you trust them or have an image of authority for them.

So you readily accept the ideas given by these people. But if the same thing is proposed by someone in your discomfort zone, then you are likely to reject that idea.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 18 Dec '08

“Then give to the world the best you have. And the best will come back to you.”
--Madeline Bridges
My Thoughts:
It’s always a give and take relationship, almost everywhere. And I know one thing for sure, that if you expect to get the best you have to give your best.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 17 Dec '08

"The purpose of life is a life of purpose."
My Thoughts:
I have been telling in the previous quotes that you are in this world for a specified purpose; a mission for which you are given a limited time span.

But most of us fail to find that mission and to be precise, choose to ignore it. Once you realize the mission, you have a purpose in life, a direction where you can progress.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 16 Dec '08

“The important work of moving the world forward does not wait to be done by perfect men.”
My Thoughts:
Moving the World forward towards success, betterment, and peace is definitely a very important task. And also this is a tougher task, and most of us think that this can be done only by a “perfect man”.

But we all know that there is nothing like a perfect man, at least these days. So should the task of moving the world forward should wait? Definitely no, it is collectively that we can help in our own ways to make this world a better place to live.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 15 Dec '08

"Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work."
My Thoughts:
During these tough financial times, we would have had experienced this. Everyone is trying to give their talented services at discounted rates.

And suddenly find that there are lots of cheap skilled and talented people all around. But then at this point, the only distinguishing factor amongst these talented individuals is one who is ready for hard work. And in addition to that, able to so some smart work.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 14 Dec '08

“Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.”
My Thoughts:
Since childhood, we have being taught to learn from our mistakes. But as we grow up, we tend to forget this lesson. And often the most forgetful, of this lesson, are the business people; who remember and show off all the happy customer testimonials.

But when it comes to unhappy costumers, we all want to be at bay. But these are the ones who would tell you what the actual problems are with your services, because they have experienced that. And all that is required is that we listen to our unhappy customers and learn from them and improve.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 13 Dec '08

“The man who has confidence in himself gains the confidence of others.”
--Hasidic Saying
My Thoughts:
Few days back I was speaking with my colleague and he mentioned an incident where a consultant from our company was to present the client with a solution before which he showed the solution to this colleague of mine.

After reviewing that, my colleague asked the consultant to write a completely new solution. And guess what…the consultant submitted the same solution without changing it and also received an appreciation from the client. So the moral of the story is above quote…!!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 12 Dec '08

“We may go to the moon, but that's not very far. The greatest distance we have to cover still lies within us.”
My Thoughts:
We could have achieved a lot of milestones in life, earned lots of money, fame and achievements. But that’s not a great deal, lot many like you have done that. And that’s not certainly main mission on Earth.

When you discover you mission, you would have made a great leap towards covering that distance within you. That distance which asks – why are you here?
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 11 Dec '08

“Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.”
My Thoughts:
In the previous quote by Mother Teresa, I had mentioned how a small gesture of gratitude can create a better world.

And this piece of quote states more or less the same. Lets make an effort that whenever we meet someone, we greet them with the best we can and when we part away from him, he should be more happier that he was before meeting us.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 10 Dec '08

“When we are unable to find tranquility within ourselves, it is useless to seek it elsewhere.”
My Thoughts:
One of the meanings of tranquility is “A state of peace and quiet” We look for Peace in Religious places, Resorts, etc. And still we experience that we are not at peace. The reason is that if your mind is peaceful, then only would you “feel” peace.

It’s something like looking at the world with a colored glass. The color of the glass would determine the color of the world for you. So if you don’t have peace in your mind and heart, then it is useless to find elsewhere.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 9 Dec '08

“The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.”
My Thoughts:
It is true that what comes our way and what will be tomorrow like is not in our hand. But there time when you have a choice today.

And this choice will give you a different tomorrow. And the only limiting factor in changing your tomorrow is the doubts you have today. And what kind of doubts are these? Something like – Can this be done? How would this work? And so on. And what I think is that these doubts are natural, we would try to suppress them and believe is ourselves and try to change the tomorrow in our way.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 8 Dec '08

“Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else.”
My Thoughts:
Every one is unique….this is what I have been telling in lots of pervious post. Each one of us has a different set of qualities that make us different from others.

But it is found that people don’t try and find these distinguishing qualities. Instead they copy others and become a second rate version of someone else.

Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 2 Dec '08

“People laugh because I am different. And I laugh because they are all the same.”
My Thoughts:
I have a strong belief that each one of us is unique and with a different purpose of life. But most people don’t think this way.

They ill treat people who they think they are different. But the point is they themselves are ignorant about the fact that they are also different. And when Swami Vivekananda says that he laughs at others because they are all the same, he didn’t mean that they are all alike or not unique. But they are acting as if they are all alike.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 1 Dec '08

One never knows what each day is going to bring. The important thing is to be open and ready for it.”
My Thoughts:
That’s Life. Life is there to surprise you; to show you something that you had never experienced before.

And this is the fact that most of us know but ignore this. Important thing is that if you know this fact, then why are you not prepared?
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 30 Nov '08

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”
My Thoughts:
When I was in school, short moral lessons were a part of our syllabus. I remember one of those stories in which a man while alighting from a cab thanks the cabbie.

The cabbie, surprised by the behavior, asked -- everyone just walks away by paying the fare, why he thanked him. The passenger replied that when I thanked you, you smiled and I made your day. And this smile and happiness will make you to cheerful and in turn you would also delight your customers. And in turn those people would delight others.

So the epidemic of happiness and cheerfulness starts with just small things, try it, NOW!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 29 Nov '08

“But in the end one needs more courage to live than to kill himself.”
My Thoughts:
Most people commit suicide because they think that’s the easiest way to end all problems.

But is it any act of courage? Certainly not, the person who faces the life as it comes is more courageous than the one who kills himself.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 28 Nov '08

“We hate some persons because we do not know them; and we will not know them because we hate them.”
My Thoughts:
Many phenomenon work in vicious circles…..you don’t keep in touch with your friend because you think that she is busy and in turn she don’t call you because you didn’t call he.

Same is with most of human relations. Someone has to break this vicious circle, why not you do it?
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 27 Nov '08

“A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.”
My Thoughts:
Every genius has a fool inside him and every fool has a genius inside him. Just find out in which category do you belong.

And by the way enjoy the quote.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 26 Nov '08

“Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”
My Thoughts:
That’s a straight forward quote…..

…..But the three important things worth observing are Ability, Motivation, Attitude and what make them happen is you.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 25 Nov '08

“Reflect on your present blessings, of which every man has many; not on your past misfortunes of which all men have some.”
My Thoughts:
All I have to say is that you could say the glass if half filled or you can say it is half empty. In both the cases you would be correct.....

.....but you yourself choose to rejoice or regret....
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 24 Nov '08

"The fearless are merely fearless. People who act in spite of their fear are truly brave."
--James A. LaFond-Lewis
My Thoughts:
People think that bravery means absence of fear. But that’s not the case.

A fearless person is only fearless….he is not brave. A brave person is one who acts in a correct way in spite of the fear.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 23 Nov '08

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
My Thoughts:
A few days back I had started reading this book called Wikinomics. This book says how mass collaboration has lead to a new revolution in how we conduct business, share knowledge, help others and create new lines of business.

And that’s also my experience that a effective team work….or say collaboration can help achieve something that cannot be done individually. And also such collaboration does not follow the one-plus-one-is-equal-to-two law but it is certainly seen that one plus one in this case is always more than two!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 22 Nov '08

“It is not enough to aim; you must hit.”
--Italian Proverb
My Thoughts:
As said in previous quote, you would have lots of things on your target. So do many people would have the same things on their target….then what’s the difference between you and them?

Hitting the target will create the difference. Even if you miss, that doesn’t matter; all it matters is that you gave it a shot.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 21 Nov '08

“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every time we do.”
My Thoughts:
Success is always relative. To you, reading this Blog can be a normal stuff, but for a visually impaired person it could be a great feat.

So to be consistently not failing, in other words, always being a winner can be your regular job and that’s not a real achievement. Your glory is manifested when you actually fail, but don’t loose courage till you achieve success. And this is how you see the contrast.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 20 Nov '08

“An age is called Dark, not because the light fails to shine, but because people refuse to see it.”
--James A. Michener

My Thoughts:
I remember a test done by a few scientists and it goes like this……Each person was shown a white paper with a black dot on it. And then they were asked to write what did they seen. I don’t remember the exact figure, but almost 99% of them replied that they saw a black dot. And the remaining ones said they saw a white paper with a dot on it.

99% of people failed to see the white paper…rather they had observed the black, small dot. That also works in life; we concentrate more on the negative, no matter small they may be. And we tent to ignore the good things, no matter how abundant they may be. And such a collective behavior would bring a dark age.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 19 Nov '08

“The reputation of a thousand years may be determined by the conduct of one hour.”
--Japanese Proverb
My Thoughts:
Here is a real life incident that I had come across during corporate soft skill training – A Software Company was about to struck a Billion Dollar deal with a major Japanese bank. The marketing team of the Software Company was constantly having meetings with the top officials of the Bank. Then came the day where on a dinner meeting both the parties would settle all the deal conditions and the next day would sign the deal.

All was going well during the dinner until the Marketing lead of the Software Company finished his dinner by licking the spoon and making a sound that is considered “Bad Table Manners.” The next day the Japanese bank reported that they would not like to do business with the company whose officials cannot handle their table manners at a dinner.

And that was called as a “Million Dollar Lick.” That’s enough to convince any one of us that you first impression (or for that matter any impression) could be your last impression.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 18 Nov '08

"Here is the test to find whether your mission on Earth is finished: if you're alive, it isn't."
My Thoughts:
It’s as simple as that…..you are alive that means you mission is not over. Each one of us on this Earth is sent for a mission, and you have limited time for completing for this mission.

I have nothing much to say on this, I am busy figuring my mission of life. Have you identified your mission of life?
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 17 Nov '08

“It is better to look ahead and prepare than to look back and regret.”
My Thoughts:
A stitch in time saves nine. That is what I was taught when I was in school. I don’t want to confuse by giving one more proverb, but just thought of mentioning it.

It’s of no use to regret and cry over things that have already been over. But it is very much required that we look ahead and prepare for what is coming our way.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 16 Nov '08

“The bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak that resists.”
--Japanese Proverb
My Thoughts:
At times it is difficult for us to accept our mistakes. At such occasions most of us think that if we accept our mistakes, then probably others would look upon us as a weak person.

But the reality is that it is the quality of a strong person that he is able to realize and accept his mistakes. So be like a Bamboo that bends at occasion and not like the Oak that resists and break.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 15 Nov '08

“Laughter is an instant vacation.”
--Milton Berle
My Thoughts:
We take vacations to get time for our self, have fun and peace of mind. And you get the same feeling when you laugh.

You actually feel relieved and rejuvenated when you laugh. So how many vacations you take in a day?
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 14 Nov '08

“The only way to entertain some folks is to listen to them.”
My Thoughts:
All communication experts will tell you one thing – listening skills are as important as your speaking skills.

And that’s human tendency, most of us give more attention to something when we actually get attention. Try this…it works…!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 13 Nov '08

"We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope."
My Thoughts:
A great motivational gem from one of the greatest leader the world has seen. When we don't achieve what we had thought, we get disappointed. But let me tell you, this disappointment has a full-stop somewhere.

All you have to do is that accept this as a finite failure and start moving towards you goal. Because hope is something which has no full-stop.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 12 Nov '08

“Make all you can, save all you can, give all you can.”
My Thoughts:
One remarkable thing about this quote is that it tells you to your best. It tells you to do the best of your skills.

Make all you can from all the opportunities that come your way. Save all you can for the betterment of yourself and the society. And Give away all you can for the best of this world. This is what I understand….what say you…?
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 11 Nov '08

“Competition is a painful thing, but it produces great results.”
My Thoughts:
You might have heard this that most of the scientific developments in the first half of 20th century took place during the two world wars.

During the wars, there was a fierce competition amongst the countries to move ahead of each other. And that lead to ground breaking development in science even though the overall experience of war was extremely painful.

Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 9 Nov '08

“Never explain--your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway.”
My Thoughts:
This is pretty straight forward. You are responsible for your actions.

And if you think you are responsible person, then you need not explain. As your friends know the intent of your actions and your enemies anyways won’t believe you.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 8 Nov '08

“The courage to be is the courage to accept oneself, in spite of being unacceptable”
My Thoughts:
At times there comes a situation where we are unable to do things that others can do. And when we face such situations, we usually get discouraged and demotivated.

But we have to understand that not everyone can do everything. Each one of us is unique having unique set of strength and weaknesses. So accept yourself the way you are and start benefiting from your strenghts and overcome your weaknesses.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 7 Nov '08

“I never see what has been done; I only see what remains to be done."
My Thoughts:
I have heard about a research that says if a driver while driving looks at the road and not at the obstacles, then he is having a lesser chance to hit any obstacle.

Here I am not trying to teach driving but it is very important that you concentrate more on your goals and don't look back to what has be done...!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 6 Nov '08
"You can not do all the good the world needs, but the world needs all the good you can do."

My Thoughts:
A Zillion drops make a sea. If you take away one from from it, it does not matter. But still that drop had its part in making the sea.
Similar are our good deeds. Each small one count to make this world a better place to live.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 5 Nov '08

“Forgive many things in others; nothing in yourself.”
My Thoughts:
Give a thought on this noble quote….every time we forgive ourselves, we are actually pampering ourselves. And that’s human tendency……everything is forgiven if it is me.

We have to actually learn to discipline ourselves and try to forget others.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 4 Nov '08

“Between too early and too late, there is never more than a moment.”
My Thoughts:
Every event has a specific time. A time which is predefined by the Almighty, and all the events have to follow the timings.

So there is nothing like too late or too early. There is only one exact time.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 3 Nov '08

“Difficulties are meant to rouse, not discourage. The human spirit is to grow strong by conflict.”
My Thoughts:
As we have seen in the previous quotes, difficulties are the way how life teaches you a lesson. Difficulties are meant to train you to think big, act big.

Learn from your difficulties…..that is the basic Mantra of life….!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 2 Nov '08

“Success isn't permanent, and failure isn't fatal.”
My Thoughts:
Success is a timely event that last for a span of time. Achieving Success doesn’t mean that you would be always at the top.

The other way round is for failure; if you fail, it doesn’t mean that you are a looser. But the only condition for this is that you have to learn from your failure.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 1 Nov '08

“He who will not economize will have to agonize.”
My Thoughts:
We all know the story of The Ant and The Grasshopper. The Ant works in the summer and collects food for winter where as the Grasshopper dances and sings all summer until it has no food to eat for winter.

Pointing to this story I am not talking about conservation, but of a thin balance of managing things. During this time of Economic crisis, the world over, this Quote is more applicable than ever before.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 31 Oct '08

"History never repeats itself, as most people fear. People usually repeat history."
--Divine Chikobvu
My Thoughts:
It is we Humans, who make History and Repeat them. It is we, who do not learn from our mistakes or from mistakes of others.

So if you don’t learn from Mistakes, you would then make a mistake of saying that History repeats itself.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 30 Oct '08

“Nothing astonishes men so much as common sense and plain dealing”
My Thoughts:
I have heard and observed that these days Common Sense is a bit un-common these days. We all tend to be and act in an un-common way….we, in our daily life, try to unnecessarily make simple things complicated.

But remember one thing, making things simple and dealing with them in a simple way would make your job simple.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 29 Oct '08

“Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body.”
My Thoughts:
At first when you try to perform a strenuous physical activity, you tend to get tired. But as you make that activity a daily routine, it won’t tire you. This is because your body has been strengthened.

This is same with the mind. If you keep on engaging your mind with difficult task, it is surely going to strengthen against these difficulties.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 28 Oct '08

“A bone to the dog is not charity. Charity is the bone shared with the dog, when you are just as hungry as the dog.”
My Thoughts:
Here Jack London is not trying to change the definition of Charity. Instead he tries to rectify our most common behavior.

And this behavior is only to give away only the excess we have. We would share something only when the “Juice overflows the Bottle.” I do agree that such a sharing is good, but when you share your stuff when you are in the same need as the receiver is……you have reached the peak of charity, a great human gesture of kindness.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 27 Oct '08

“He that is of the opinion money will do everything may well be suspected of doing everything for money.”
My Thoughts:
This quote is very simple, straight forward stuff. But did you find a hidden or implied meaning in this?

Just remove the word Money from it and put whatever noun you want. And then you would find the mentality of most of us.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 26 Oct '08

“It is no longer good enough to cry peace; we must act peace, live peace and live in peace.”
--American Indian Proverb
My Thoughts:
Everyone everywhere cries for Peace. But would that bring peace? Certainly not….

Nothing would happen if you cry peace, except for a bit of noise. To bring peace, you have to Act for bringing peace. Your motive in life should be peace and then you will, probably, achieve peace.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 25 Oct '08

“If he could only see how small a vacancy his death would leave, the proud man would think less of the place he occupies in his lifetime.”
My Thoughts:
Most of the times I get the feeling that if it hadn’t been me, the job would have not been accomplished; it was because of me being at this place that things are happening.

But then, I calm my excitement by asking one simple question…..what if I was dead? Someone ought to do that work, nothing great in that. We all must have faced such situations and you need to understand that you are not that great, but lucky, that you are doing that job.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 24 Oct '08

“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”
My Thoughts:
Most of times I find myself doing things which I would have not done if I wasn’t been inspired by something. But then that inspired motivation gets lost some where.

When you make a habit of doing things, you could keep up the motivation going.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 23 Oct '08
“Progress lies not in enhancing what is, but in advancing toward what will be.”
My Thoughts:

Do not layback under the impression that a small enhancement would change things and that change would mean progress. No, that isn’t.

You should not stop your efforts until you reach a point where you wanted to be. And that’s real progress.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 22 Oct '08

“Just because something doesn't do what you planned it to do doesn't mean it's useless.”
My Thoughts:
This is a very simple, yet powerful statement. Every thing has a purpose, bet it living or otherwise.

So the next time if something or someone doesn’t work the way you wanted. Don’t worry, it is not useless but it is meant to do something else.

“The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials”
--Chinese Proverb
My Thoughts:
A Gem is just a stone until it is polished. And polishing is a painful task for the Gem as well as the polisher.

Similarly a Person is like just any other person until he is polished trials of times. And it is of course a painful task. So the next time when you face a trail then see it as a yet another polishing of the Gem inside you.

“It is not enough to have a good mind; the main thing is to use it well.”
My Thoughts:
Will a donkey become wise if you load him with a heap of books? Certainly not, having a good mind and grasping power is same like carrying a heap of books (wisdom) on your head.

It does not make you wise until you use it. If our wisdom is of no use anyone then we are like that donkey carrying books on our back.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 11 Oct '08

“The only time you don't fail is the last time you try anything - and it works.”
My Thoughts:
In my previous post, I had said that failure is only a station on the way to success. But most people take that as their destination.

So the next time you fail, think that you have only moved to the next station still closer to success.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 10 Oct '08

“There are two ways to spread happiness; either be the light who shines it or be the mirror who reflects it.”
My Thoughts:
Happiness and sorrow, both are contagious. You look at a person and give him a smile, and you get a wonderful smile in return. Same is with sadness and anger.

However in the above quote, spreading happiness is divided into two ways. Either you create ways to make yourself and others happy. Or else you can choose to share the happiness you received with others. And both the ways work really well.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 9 Oct '08

“I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying.”
My Thoughts:
Failure is only a station on the journey towards success. But most people think that they have reached their destination and leave the train of trying.

I have been telling this in my previous posts that it is not a problem if you fail. But the most important thing is that you are trying.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 8 Oct '08

“The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.”
My Thoughts:
A mistake is not a mistake if you take something out of it. Each mistake has some learning into it. All you have to do is find that learning.

So the next time you make a mistake, you have nothing to regret if you had learned something out of it.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 7 Oct '08
“Those who stand for nothing fall for anything.”

If I am not supporting something, then there are chances that I may be carried away by every second thing that come across.

So support what is truth!

Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 6 Oct '08
“In peace, as a wise man, he should make suitable preparation for war.”
My Thoughts:
We all must have heard the story of The Ant and The Grasshopper. The Ant works in the summer and collects food for winter where as the Grasshopper dances and sings all summer until it has no food to eat for winter.

The ant acted wisely, and prepared for the tough time. There is a great learning that comes from the story, which is in short taught in the military training that –“the more you sweat in war time, the less you bleed during the war time.”
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 5 Oct '08

“If wrinkles must be written upon our brows, let them not be written upon the heart. The spirit should not grow old.”
My Thoughts:
You can control you age…you can stop growing older. Yes, you read it correctly. I am not talking about your biological age, but your spiritual age…..the age that really matters.

But of course, I don’t say that you should stop learning. No, all it is said is that you should be younger at heart.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 4 Oct '08

"The only tyrant I accept in this world is the still voice within."
My Thoughts:
We all must have experience this at some or the other time in Life that whenever we do something wrong or something not good for yourself, you hear a voice from your heart. Most people also called this Gut feeling.

Whatever this is but, I believe, it is certainly guidance from Allah Almighty. Most of people find obeying the “worldly” dictators much easier than the internal one. But Great men like Mahatma Gandhi choose the otherwise. And this take a lot of courage.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 3 Oct '08

“The leader of genius must have the ability to make different opponents appear as if they belonged to one category.”
My Thoughts:
Hitler though was a cruel man, but was a genius in his own way. If you look at his life, he had overcome lots of hurdles, lots of hardships. He showed the world what an individual can do if he is determined with his intentions.

And it is the ability of the genius like him to make his style fit all his endeavors. To make all his opponents appear as if he had encountered before and can overcome them. We are afraid of new things, if not afraid then a little hesitant. But only a genius….or rather a Leader of genius that has the ability to make his new endeavors look as if he has be familiar with it.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 2 Oct '08

"Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all."
My Thoughts:
We know the story of Thomas Edison….Despite of being not able to attend school like a normal child; he succeeded like no other person in Life. It is said that he tried at least a 10,000 times before he successfully invented the light Bulb.

He accomplished this seemingly impossible task only because of he had a dream and strong belief in himself. And if you look at the history, you would certainly find similar stories of Great Men accomplishing seemingly impossible task. If you have a dream, then have a strong belief in yourself and see how it works.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 1 Oct '08

"Advance, and never halt, for advancing is perfection. Advance and do not fear the thorns in the path, for they draw only corrupt blood."
My Thoughts:
Another Jewel from Khalil Gibran…..this always gives us the courage when we are stuck with something. We had seen in the previous quote that it is no matter of worry if you are advancing slowly, but you have to make sure that you never halt.

Same thing gets highlighted in this quote. We many a times worry about the pains and trials that crosses our path, but bear one thing in mind, these trails are only making you near perfect….Believe me!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 30 Sept '08

"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe."
My Thoughts:
We are always taught that to achieve something, we have to act and plan a lot before we can act. But this is only half the picture if you are trying to do something great.

To achieve something great first you have to dream Big and then act. And even before you can act, you have to have belief in yourself that whatever you have planned, you will achieve. So folks, keep faith in yourself and keep dreaming big to achieve something Big.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 29 Sept '08

"Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."
My Thoughts:
I remember, My Teacher Prof. Bhavesh used to say us “Prepare for the worst so that you perform the best.” Of course, this has little connection with the above quote….but one thing that’s common is aiming high.

If you prepare yourself to move towards new heights, plan to achieve new goals then even if you miss to achieve what you had aimed, you would still land in a place which is better than what you are in now.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 28 Sept '08

“A handful of patience is worth more than a bushel of brains.”
--Dutch Proverb

My Thoughts:
I have lots of complex thoughts getting in my mind when I write this. But I could not write much….until I patiently waited for the right thing to come out of my brain.

If you would have measured, in whatever ways you can, you would have realized that Patience is mightier than the Brain.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 27 Sept '08

“Do not protect yourself by a fence, but rather by your friends.”
--Czech Proverb

My Thoughts:
A fence can protect you from thieves, etc. A fence can’t protect you from loneliness, nor can it share your happiness….worries.

What else could I say; each one of us understands this best in our own way.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 26 Sept '08

“He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.”

--Chinese Proverb

My Thoughts:
We are always shy to ask. We think that if we would ask, then others might take us as fools or ignorant people.

The fact is there is nothing wrong in asking. We are all born with almost no knowledge. We can learn a lot by asking. If we don’t ask, we would be as ignorant as we were before. So don’t be shy to ask.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 25 Sept '08

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

--Chinese Proverb

My Thoughts:
This proverb from the sea of Chinese wisdom tells you one simple thing – if you want to help someone, the best help is not to give away something, but to teach the person how to be self-sufficient.

No help is better than that where you make a person stand on his own feet and be independent of others.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 24 Sept '08

“Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still.”
--Chinese Proverb

My Thoughts:
Most of us have the tendency, rather I must say habit, of getting nervous and worried when we a progressing slowly. May it be at work, studies, sports or any other thing.

But the thought that you are progressing will take away your worry. The fact is you are trying, and you have not given up. You should be always afraid of being stand still…and not by slow progressing.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 23 Sept '08

“Seize opportunity by the beard, for it is bald behind.”
--Bulgarian Proverb

My Thoughts:
It had happened to me quiet a few times when I had the opportunity but I didn’t act. Then all I had to do was…regret…!

This proverb says that you should move ahead and catch hold of the opportunity. If you don’t do that, then you may not be able to catch hold and it would slip out of your hand as it is bald from behind…!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 22 Sept '08

“Examine what is said, not him who speaks.”
--Arab Proverb

My Thoughts:
I have see at many occasions that people act differently when different people say the same thing.

They tend to get biased and influenced by the person. This proverb of wisdom sets the basic rule of human behavior that one should not look at the person who saying, rather we should hear what he is saying.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 21 Sept '08

"Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit."

My Thoughts:
A tree which is giving a fruit or is blossoming is said to be at the peak of its achievement. Similarly, as the scholars say, a person who is in love or is loved by someone is at the peak of his achievement in life.

Is this not a great achievement that someone is loving you….?
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 20 Sept '08

"One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving."
My Thoughts:
Why do you love your Parents? Why do you love your Wife? Why do you love your Friends? Certainly you never answered such questions before you loved someone.

There is certainly no reason you can give for loving a person. You simply love that person….nothing much to think….!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 19 Sept '08

"The best proof of love is trust."
My Thoughts:
By rule, Trust is the basic foundation of every relation in this world. You can understand that its love, you can feel that its love but the proof is the Trust.

The Trust is what had made your relation strong and it is the one that’s going to take this relationship ahead.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 18 Sept '08

"Are you ready to cut off your head and place your foot on it? If so, come; Love awaits you! Love is not grown in a garden, nor sold in the marketplace; whether you are a king or a servant, the price is your head, and nothing less. Yes, the cost of the elixir of love is your head! Do you hesitate? Oh miser, it is cheap at that price!"

My Thoughts:
Well, I need not say much….a person in love would better know this than what I can say.

And in case if you are not in love with anyone, then better fall in love and understand this quote.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 17 Sept '08

"Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get, it's what you are expected to give - which is everything."
--Anonymous

My Thoughts:
Love is no Business…..do not expect a profit or a favor in return….Love is far exalted deal than you think. And in this your job is to only Love…that’s it.

This is all that matters….what can you do for whom you love. Nothing else matters in love but only one thing and that is what you can do in love…..!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 16 Sept '08

"If you love somebody, let them go. If they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were."
--Anonymous

My Thoughts:
When you love someone, all you can and should do is Love him/her. There is nothing else to be done on your part…simply love….!

You have no control or authority on that person. So if he wants to leave you, let him go, if he was yours….your love would bring him back to you….otherwise you know…!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 15 Sept '08

"You don't love a woman because she is beautiful, but she is beautiful because you love her."
--Anonymous

My Thoughts:
It is said, and I firmly believe, that ‘Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder’. My mom may not be the most beautiful woman in the world, but she is certainly the most beautiful mom in the world.

This is same for any other woman in the world, be it your daughter, sister, girlfriend or wife. She is beautiful because you love her…!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 14 Sept '08

“The harder I work the luckier I get.”
My Thoughts:
You certainly can sit down and wait for things. The more you strive for something, the more there are chances that you achieve what you wand. This is how you get luckier.

Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 13 Sept '08

“Accept your genius and say what you think”
My Thoughts:
There is an old Joke, rather a story in which two weavers were presented in front of a king. They said to the king that they are not ordinary weavers. They are weaving a cloth which cannot be seen by a fool. And they present the cloth to the king. When the king tries to look at it, he cannot see the cloth. But the king doesn’t say this because he doesn’t want himself to be called as a fool.

The king asks his ministers about the cloth, none of them can see it but they don’t tell this only because they don’t want themselves to be called as fools. Soon the news of this special cloth spreads across the whole kingdom. The king announces that he would wear a dress made from this cloth and appear in front of his kingdom.

The day came, everyone gathered to see the special dress. The king appeared in front of the crowd. But nobody could see the dress. Even though nobody could see the dress, they did not say this they feared to be called as fools. But suddenly there was a voice from the crowd, it was a small boy. He was asking why the king was standing naked.

Yes, you guessed this right…the weavers had fooled the King. The Moral of the story is – say whatever comes in your mind and accept what you are.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 12 Sept '08

“I would not waste my life in friction when it could be turned into momentum”
My Thoughts:
This one is again a quote on attitude. All my life I can complain about what’s lacing, what I can not do, what all I hindering me and so on.

There is certainly a lot of friction in this world. And you could stay stagnant all your life with this friction. Or you can change your attitude and turn all the negatives in your favor. It’s all up to you, to change your thoughts and gain momentum in life.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 11 Sept '08

“Labor disgraces no man; unfortunately, you occasionally find men who disgrace labor”

My Thoughts:
I usually see that people look upon people like Housekeeping personnel, sweepers, janitors and people like them with disgrace. They think that they are doing a job which is disgraceful. But the reality is that if they would have not been doing that job, imagine what would have happed. You might had to do all that stuff by yourself.

As Saint Kabir Das says “what a Sword can do a needle cannot and what a needle can do a sword cannot.” So a Labor, whatever it may be, is certainly not a disgraceful thing. And at the same time, people who don’t do Justice with their job, they are the one who disgrace their labor.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 10 Sept '08

“You can complain because roses have thorns, or you can rejoice because thorns have roses”
 My Thoughts:
You must have observed that I have been saying this over and over again that attitude is everything. You change your attitude, you change your world, and you change your life.

The above quote also says the same. You can be happy when you see that there are a lot of goods things in the world. But however you can also be sad and depressed about the all the negative things in this world. This is entirely your choice; you can choose to be happy or can complain about everything you want.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 9 Sept '08

“Every exit is an entry somewhere.”
My Thoughts:
I leave my home and enter the outside world. I step into my office and I exit the outside world. You see, whenever I exit somewhere, I am also entering somewhere.

However, the essence of the above quote is not about some physical entry or exit. Its emphasis is more on your entry and exits from the various events in your life.

You may apparently see an end to an event in life say end of a job or a relationship. But that is also an entry to a new event in your life. It’s a new beginning that’s probably going to change your life.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 8 Sept '08
“Don't be afraid to take a big step. You can't cross a chasm in two small jumps”

My thoughts:
Great acts involve great deeds. If you want to do something great, you have to act like a great man. Like all Great men, you would have to take tough decisions, do something which never was done before and do something big.

So if you are afraid to take a big step, you cannot cross this barrier…the only barrier between you and your great acts. And as it is said, great acts make a Great man.

"Adversity cause some men to break; others to break records."
My Thoughts:
Recently we saw the Olympics. It was an entertaining event. Lots of people, players and spectators and Lots of challenges too.

The competition was tough, the targets were big, the stakes were high. That was really an adverse state of affair. But people like Michael Phelps broke the record. It was only due to his hard work and great skills. These are the times where your skills are tested, err. you are tested. Hardships are only tests which are taken so that you could be promoted to the next class.

"You can't build a reputation on what you're going to do"
My Thoughts:
I have lots of plans in my mind. I think i am going to do this, do that and so on. But the truth is that people know me for what i have done and have been doing.

Your reputation amongst people is not by what you think or plan to do, but it is because of your actions.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 5 Sept '08

"Our character is what we do when we think no one is looking."
My Thoughts:
To the world you may be a honest person. Many trust you only because you are a good person. But they all do this because you appear to be that.

But thats not what is called character. Character is what you think about yourself, how much do you value yourself. Thats your true value, thats your true character.

Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 4 Sept '08

“A teacher teaches lesson first and then takes the exam. Life takes the exam first and then teaches a lesson.”
My Thoughts:
Every Teacher has a different teaching style. Life is also a great teacher and it's style is to teach it the hard way.
Not much to say today....looking forward to hear it from you.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Wednesday, 3 Sept '08

"Nothing is too small to know, and nothing is too big to attempt."

 My Thoughts:
Whether you are at home, work, college or traveling, each day comes with learning. Learning is a rule of life, and life may teach you a lot of lessons.

But it is totally up to us to learn from these lessons that there is really nothing worth ignoring in this world and there is no such situation where you have a valid reason to say – “I can’t attempt this”
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Tuesday, 2 Sept '08

"Beware how you take away hope from another human being"
 My Thoughts:
When someone comes to ask to share his/her problems, we might unknowingly transfer our fears to that person. We instead of consoling him might make his situation worse.

This does not mean that you console the other person with false promises. But rather, I mean to say (in context with the above quote) that lets not take away that small light of hope from that guy. Let’s make a conscious effort!
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 1 Sept '08

I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.

My Thoughts:
Have you seen a blacksmith making things out of tough metal? He first heats the metal and then he forges it into whatever he wants. But can he do the same things so easily with out heating the metal? No…not so easily. And can he do the same thing only by heating the metal? No….Certainly he won’t get what he wants by only heating the metal.

In the above example, let’s put the Forging as your hard work and the Heating as your Luck. Now the same questions and the same answers…..you can achieve something very easily if you have both hard work and luck. It is a little tougher if you have no Luck. But it is impossible to achieve something if you bank on only your Luck.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Sunday, 31 Aug '08

A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.
--anonymous
My Thoughts:
Many a times we think that if we share with others what we know, or what we have, we might be at some loss. But this is a known fact that this is not true.

Yes of course, you may argue that there could be some material loss when you share your belongings with others, but the fact is that what you get in return is a of much greater value. What you get in return is a personal satisfaction, Love, trust and good relationships which are far more valuable than what you give.

What do you think?
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Saturday, 30 Aug '08

"One thing you can't recycle is wasted time"
--Anonymous
My Thoughts:
Many a times I feel that I shouldn't have done that thing. But I cannot Undo it! Same is with Time, you cannot undo it, you cannot go back.

You can reuse or recycle a lots of things but not Time. So until we find any way to recycle time, lets use it effectively.....what say....?
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Friday, 29 Aug '08

"If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it."
My Thoughts:
What I get to know from this quote is one simple thing – if you can travel, you can reach your desired destination. I don’t say that you will reach your destination, but you have the chances to be there. The point is that if don’t move at all there are no chances for you to reach at your destination. But if you take steps, however small it may be, there are chances that you would be at your destination.

So if you imagine being a good human, you can be a good human. If you dream to successful, you can be successful.

Let me know your thoughts.
Quote & Thought for the Day -- Thursday, 28 Aug '08

"Yesterday I dared to struggle. Today I dare to win."

My Thoughts:
What I observed in this quote was that Winning comes after Struggle. So the first step is struggling. If I do not dare to struggle today, how can I except things to be on track.

So if I don't Struggle today, there is complete chance that I can't even dare to win tomorrow. So struggle so that you have the guts to win.
