“Effort is important, but knowing where to make an effort in your life makes all the difference.”
--Anonymous
My Thoughts:
Ever heard the story of the giant ship engine that failed? The ship's owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure but how to fix the engine. Then they brought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he was a youngster. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he immediately went to work. He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom.

Two of the ship's owners were there, watching this man, hoping he would know what to do. After looking things over, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed! A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for ten thousand dollars.

"What?!" the owners exclaimed. "He hardly did anything!"

So they wrote a note to the old man saying, "Please send us an itemized bill."

The man sent a bill that read:

Tapping with a hammer ........................ $ 2.00
Knowing where to tap ........................... $ 9998.00

“It is better to wear out than to rust out.”
My Thoughts:
So do you want to die just like anyone on a hospital bead or do you want to die fighting for a cause? Of course you want to die for a cause.

Everyone would die one day, then why not put ourselves for a cause and wear out for that cause. That’s certainly better than rusting at home and dying for nothing.

“Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all.”
My Thoughts:
Hard work not only highlights the character of a person but also many more things. It tells you how a person looks at things.

His attitude towards life and work, how he handles situations and take decisions.

"Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work."
My Thoughts:
During these tough financial times, we would have had experienced this. Everyone is trying to give their talented services at discounted rates.

And suddenly find that there are lots of cheap skilled and talented people all around. But then at this point, the only distinguishing factor amongst these talented individuals is one who is ready for hard work. And in addition to that, able to so some smart work.

“The harder I work the luckier I get.”
My Thoughts:
You certainly can sit down and wait for things. The more you strive for something, the more there are chances that you achieve what you wand. This is how you get luckier.

Quote & Thought for the Day -- Monday, 1 Sept '08

I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.

My Thoughts:
Have you seen a blacksmith making things out of tough metal? He first heats the metal and then he forges it into whatever he wants. But can he do the same things so easily with out heating the metal? No…not so easily. And can he do the same thing only by heating the metal? No….Certainly he won’t get what he wants by only heating the metal.

In the above example, let’s put the Forging as your hard work and the Heating as your Luck. Now the same questions and the same answers…..you can achieve something very easily if you have both hard work and luck. It is a little tougher if you have no Luck. But it is impossible to achieve something if you bank on only your Luck.
